Umarov declares terrorism at Domodedovo his doing
Moscow. Terrorist leader Doku Umarov claims responsibility for the attack on Moscow's Domodedovo airport. In a video he threatens with further attacks, but the authorities do not believe him.
Doku Umarov's message was published on the Underground Fighter website Kavkazcener. There he states that the attack is in answer to Russia's crimes in the Caucasus. He said, that he had ordered the attack and that there will be further to follow.
Threat of further terrorist attacks in Russia He announced, that as long as Russian forces are not withdrawing from the Caucasus, he would order further attacks on Russian territory. It is unfair that the killing of Muslims in Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan are not labeled terrorism, compared to the retaliation of the Underground Fighters.
The video, apparently filmed on the 24th January, just after the attack, only surfaced now.
Umarov had released a video the previous week in which he claims to train new suicide attackers and send them to Russian cities.
Umarov is considered to be isolated He also made the point that he will be sending the warlord Seifullah on a mission. Seifullah is one of the few Underground fighters who still support Umarov.
Since last summer the supporters of the Islamic movement are split over Umarov. Known as the 'Emir of the Caucasus' and the head of the underground movement, he had initially resigned, but then changed his mind. With this, some of the warlords withdrew their support for the 'Emir'.
The Interior Ministry has therefore doubts about he newly released video. Umarov talks complete nonsense, he has not been in command for some time and sits only in a hole in the ground until the end of his days, told a spokesman for the Ministry the daily newspaper Commersant. He only wants to get attention one more time, claim Chechen officials.
36 dead and over 100 injured in the attack Thirty-six people lost their lives during the attack at Domodedovo. Among the victims were Russians, Ukrainian citizens, one German, two Austrians, one British and Islamic nationals from Tjikistan and Usbekistan.
Approximately 130 people were injured in the attack. Dozens of people are still in hospital, most of them with splinter injuries. Reports on the investigation of the crime are premature and were dismissed by Dmitry Medvedev.
