Gorbachev criticizes the Kremlin Party - who is cross

Moscow. The former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev criticizes Putin's party “United Russia” again. They feel insulted and blame Gorby for the collapse of the Soviet Union his London birthday celebrations.

During an interview with the radio station "Echo Moskvy" last Saturday, Gorbachev described the situation in Russia as “critical”. This could only change with new people in politics, a new coalition and honest Duma elections in December.

One cannot rely on United Russia

“I believe that one cannot rely on United Russia, it holds us back and suits Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) really well as he wants to keep status quo and the power, but is not interested in solving any of our horrendous problems”, said Gorbachev.

The former president expressed a similar harsh view on Putin's project "The All-Russia People`s Front: "I will not help them, as they throw us back in time or at least put on the brakes." Putin has done much for the country during his first four years as President, but also made serious mistakes, one of which is abolishing the system of elected governors.

We have lost our country

Sergei Neverov from United Russia general office spat back: "You may argue about whether a person who is celebrating his birthday in extravagant style in London, can state categorically, what the Russian people like and dislike."

With this statement he refers to Gorbachev's gala fundraiser concert in London to mark his 80th Birthday. On the 2nd March 4000 guests were invited to this event and the money collected was donated to charity.

Neverov also reminded Gorbachev that "under his rule we lost our country" which refers to the break up of the Soviet Union under Gorbachev and its complete disappearance as a State in late 1991.

The Chronicle: Gorbachev against United Russia

Mikhail Gorbachev has previously reproached "United Russia". In March and now he asked for honest elections for the Duma and noted that "the rights and freedom of citizens are under attack".

In February, the in the West popular and to Russians still suspicious Gorbachev, described the attempt of Putin and Medvedev, to settle the candidacy for the Presidential elections in 2012 between themselves, as "presumptuous and arrogant".

In December 2010, Gorbachev criticized Medvedev`s year end statement. There are no real political changes, the country is riddled with corruption, the party abuses its power.

Last March Gorbachev even compared United Russia with the CPSU. The Kremlin party has violated the principles of the democratic reforms that he himself had pushed for so hard in the 1980s.
