Revolving Skyscrapers for Moscow and St. Petersburg
Moscow. Skyscrapers where each of 60 stories revolves about its own axis are destined for Moscow and St. Petersburg. Moscow’s Mirax Group has acquired a project by the Italian architect David Fischer.

Each of the planned skyscrapers’ more than 60 floors will turn on its own axis independent of the other floors, according to Moscow daily papers today. The building’s floor space will run to approx. 110,000m².

The lower floors will accommodate shops and offices., while the upper stories will be reserved for apartments each costing ˆ10,000 - per square metre.

The revolving skyscraper might also be erected in “Moscow City!
Moscow’s Mirax Group is also developer of the prestigious “Moscow City” business centre that boasts Moscow’s highest skyscraper, the Federation Tower. Moscow City already houses companies such as Germany’s E.ON Ruhrgas.

The revolving skyscraper could even be erected in Moscow City itself, according to the business daily Kommersant. In any case, it will definitely be situated in close proximity to the Third Moscow Ring Road. Mirax Group is currently in the process of purchasing the site.

Start of construction 2008, completion 2011

Construction could start in 2008 and should be completed by 2011. The costs will run to approx. $400 million (ˆ300 million) and thus cost around ˆ3000 euros per square metre.

David Fischer and his “Dynamic Architecture” architecture bureau already designed a similar skyscraper for Dubai that bears the name “Green Environmental Tower”. Water supply and waste water disposal posed particular problems for the Dubai project.
