Russia is running out of own workforce
Moscow. Modernization in Russia is short of workers. By 2025 the countries´ working population will have declined by 10 million people. It will be necessary to specifically recruit skilled foreign workers.
"Out of a demographic perspective, the country is entering its worst period," said the Secretary to the National Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev. According to Patrushev, the number of the working population will reduce by "at least 10 million over the next 15 years". The possibility to lower or increase the working age has virtually been exhausted, he said.
Raising the retirement age is no solution At the moment, until the Presidential elections in March, the Russian Government does not agree with an increase in the retirement age. However, the profit from doing so would be negligent.
Officially Russians may retire much earlier than anyone else in any other European country - Women at 55 and men at 60 years - but according to the statistics, the average Russian does not reach the retirement age. Many, who have reached the retirement age and would be able to claim a pension, continue to work to supplement their meager pension.
Qualified professionals are missing The shortage threatens Russia´s recovery:"We are confronted everywhere with the fact that for the realization of our plans and solutions to our problems for a transition to an innovative industry we lack qualified workers, especially in middle management," said Patrushev.
This is why the Russian Government is looking for a way to renew the pool of workers. Russia is however one of the largest immigration countries worldwide, but the immigrants from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and other CIS countries are poor and usually only asked for low-wage work.
In order to attract engineers and experts, the Russian Government wants to target the appropriate cadre. The immigration act needs to be revised accordingly, they say.
